One of the most cost effective ways of getting traffic to your website is by using Google's Adwords system.

With careful keyword selection you could appear on the first search pages for your search terms almost immediately.

You provide Google with a 3 line advert (including title) to describe your website, products and services and then select search words or phrases that you consider a visitor to your website.

When a Google user searches for your words or phrase, your web link and advert appears on the right hand side of the results page, within the 'Sponsored' section.

You are able to set a daily budget and the minimum cost per click is 1p. So at 10p per click and a budget of £30 per month (the price of a small classified ad?) you may be able to send up to 300 targeted visitors to your site.

Your position on the listing of sponsored links in determined by 2 factors. Firstly the value of your maximum cost per click (CPC) - the greater the CPC the higher your listing, and secondly the amount of times someone has clicked on your sponsored link compared to how many times your link has been shown - your click through rate (CTR).

It should be noted that a careful selection of your keywords along with a relevant advert will enable you to achieve the best click through rate and therefore the highest position for the lowest cost.
